The Jewellery Channel

icon8.gifNever trust a service assistant
My wife needed a pair of diamond earrings for a gift and we have been saving up money for months to buy a pair.

Whilst watching the Jewellery Channel for the first time we purchased two pairs of earrings from the Jewellery Channel, both times asking if the money back guarentee applied before handing over payment details. Both times we were told yes (once even after the assistant had checked with a supervisor). But after we returned both pairs because they were not suitable we had the packages returned with a screwed up note that said the guarentee did not apply for hygiene reasons.

My wife then contacted them twice by telephone, the first time they explained that they would review the recordings of the conversations on their system, and the second to hear that 'the recordings of our specific conversations had not been taken' and that the terms and conditions are avaialble on the internet and we should have checked this before buying!!!!

I am disgusted at the customer service attitude we have received from this company and are now stuck with over £1,000 of jewellery that we dont want and a VERY sour taste in our mouthes.

I would be able to acccept this if we had not checked or the guy on the auction had explained that the money back guarentee did not apply to the items but we checked both times and are still unable to return the items.

I will not be buying anything else from this company EVER again and don't know what to do!

Is a bit strange that they said you could return them as almost everywhere doesn't allow return of earrings for hygiene reasons. Might be worthwhile writing to them/double checking that the erms and conditions on the website do actually state this...

Were both pairs of earrings bought at once?

Why on earth someone with £1000 to spend on earrings would buy off TV, I really have no idea, as surely you'd want to see them first???

And the hygiene thing... no offence, but I really can't think of anything more obvious, and the same rule applies in ANY shop selling earrings. Even Claire's Accessories has signs up saying earrings can't be returned due to hygiene reasons.

Would you not be annoyed if they said the DO accept returns, meaning that your very pair of earrings could have been in someone else's ear, and thus potentially infected???????

You're going to have to accept your mistake here, and either learn to like them, or sell them - but don't expect to get anywhere near the new value.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
  • Did they send them inside a sealed up plastic bag or were they just 'loose'?

As in loose I meant loose in the box. Bagged I meant in a box but also in a sealed bag within the box.
I have bought earrings from a jewelry shop before and they came in a special sealed bag so that they could be taken back as they would have been able to see if i'd taken them out.
