i just got a text message on my mobile from 07879644750, telling me to contact 023222270680 to arrange delivery of a large parcel, i knew the phone code wasnt local as 0232 used to be the code for Belfast YEARS AGO!!! and then it was changed around 1996 or so, i thought it miught be a scam, so googled it and it is indeed a scam!!

i was gonna text it back "i know this is a scam" but i didnt bother, its awful, esp this time of year, i was waiting on a parcel from "Santa" too, if it wasnt for the odd looking fone number i might have been daft enough to phone it back!!

just had the same message, i am also on an O2 phone, though mine is on a business contract

I am on a Vodaphone business network and I received the text at 2:53 am, woke me up too.

I searched the net and found it is a scam. Scream website http://www.the-scream.co.uk/forums/t28132-2.html?

Warrington Trading Standards have recently informed Nottinghamshire Police of a current scam doing the rounds - please be aware. Warrington Trading Standards have contacted Phonepay Plus following complaints about text messages consisting of the text “!! URGENT!! Large parcel awaiting delivery, please call now on +23222270680 for delivery tomorrow INTERNATIONAL PARCEL DELIVERIES“

Calls to the number will be charged at £1.50 per minute. The message is 6 minutes long. Phonepay plus advise that they have contacted the networks in order that they bar access. Please do not contact Phonepay plus as they are aware of the scam which appears to be connected to Sierra Leone. It may take 24 hours to block the number.
