To All inclusive or not?

I've booked accomodation in Mauritius for next summer, first week half board at one hotel, second week all inclusive at a different hotel. I'm trying to decide whether we should pay an extra £700 (2 adults and an 18 month old) to go AI for the first week. I was thinking we could just take some drinks (within customs limits - obviously) and snacks over with us, and buy the odd bottle of wine/snack for lunch whilst we were there, but with the falling value of the pound I'm thinking it could work out quite expensive now. But maybe for the sake of our livers and weight one week AI will be enough?
What does anyone else think?

Personally, I wouldn't bother in the circumstances you describe. I found AI was best value when our children were old enough to be able to get their own drinks and ice creams (aged 9 & 7 IIRC). You are limited to what the hotel/resort offers and may feel less inclined to venture elsewhere for fear you are losing the value of your holiday. An extra £700 could buy you a lot of food and drink - you may feel tempted to over-indulge to ensure you are getting your money's worth;-))Gwlad heb iaith, gwlad heb galon0

£700 for seven days
= £100 for one day
= £50 for one person on 'extras' each day, planning some very expensive snacks
and getting 'legless' every night.
Ps only jealous of anyone off to Mauritius0 -
Thanks - think I'll just save getting legless til week 2!!!!0

Hi becominganobsessivesaver
We where in Mauritius in June this year and choose HB as we couldnt justify the extra £2k for AI for 2 Adults and 2 kids (5&2). I supose it depends on how much you intend to drinak an snack each day. The drink prices in the hotels are quite steep. We hired a car and went to the local supermarket to stock up. Never any problem in stocking the minibar with our own drinks. As for snacks, well i took plenty to satisfy my kids. Having seen how expensive chocolate was in the Caribbean last year i wasnt prepared to pay £2 for a Mars bar!
If you can get to a supermarket then go as it is really cheap and ou will find really strange items...
Just out of interest where are you staying?0 -
