Barclaycard/Goldfish - non payment of DD

I received a letter from Barclaycard, telling me that they were going to charge me £12 for non-payment of a direct debit on my Goldfish account which they have just taken over.

I couldn't see any reason why it should have failed and they quickly backed down when I phoned up to complain.

However, when I called my bank to ask whether they could see anything untoward on my account, I was told that there was no sign that the payment had been requested AND that they were getting quite a few queries about Barclaycard/Goldfish customers.

I just wondered what the scale of this was likely to be - and how many people will stump up the £12 rather than contest it. (I'm not suggesting that Barclaycard is deliberately setting this up as a revenue collection exercise.)

Anyone think it should be reported to Trading Standards?

Comments

  • If it is a genuine mistake - No they will contact all cardholders and either refund the fees or not charge them at all.
If you have evidence that they are doing wrong and not attempting to put it right then - Yes report them.
