Help with a Liteon 5115 Recorder Plz!

I've had this recorder for over 2 years now and for some reason it won't play shop brought dvd's. It will play any other disc with no problems.
Hope someone has an idea what I can do ( other than buying a new one ) or has had this problem and solved it.
Thanks

Does it mention 'region code' when you try to play a disc?

No and I have tried multi region as well as region 2. It just tells me that the disc is invalid.

  • not sure what was funny about my post. There is no firmware update for your player which could solve the issue, lasers are extremely sensitive, if slightly misaligned the drive could quite happily read + write certain types/brands of disks, and not others.
you could always try a cd/dvd drive cleaner, though i do think my 1st post is probably correct.
the general consensus is that liteon make some pretty good drives for the pc market, but their standalone offerings are below par
    still :(

Thanks tonyhague I will get hold of a drive cleaner just to see if that will help 1st but if not then a new one it is.

I had a Liteon DVD recorder, I think it was the 5225 model. I also had the same problem with it not reading commercial DVDs and had to return it to get he driuve changed. This fixed the problem for a while until it wetn wrong again, when I got the drive replaced once more. When it went wrong the third time I got rid of it and bought a Sony model - no problems with that one. The Liteons have a two year warranty and they collect and deliver for free too, in case that helps.

As you all took time to help me I thought I would let you know that I clean the drive and it is working fine ( for now!).
Thank you all for your time and help
