If you're sure the AV cable isn't faulty (have you tried another?) then repair is probably the only option.

  • Hi Superscaper, thanks for your quick reply. Sorry to be dense but what is an AV cable, there are so many cables.... is it the oblong shaped one with the 3 different coloured options at the other end?

Yes. But basically just check any cable that's connected from the XBox to the TV.

If you do have to send if off ill give you some tips/advice

contact xbox support 0800 587 1102 and they will sort you out with a lable which you need to attach to the box

they will inform you of any cost
you will need to get a box from a supermarket and some packing material eg shredded paper or puble wrap or both
pack the xbox minux the hard drive and any leads into the box and use the packing material to make sure the console is safe,
use parcel tape to tape teh box up and tape the label to the box,

ps when you call xbox support you will need the console serial number which is written on the back of the console
  • are all 4 red lights flashing or just 3? ours had a problem which was their fault, so they picked it up and returned it, fixed, withing 8 days, for free after 16 months of having it. the man on the phone said to check for the light on the cable as well to check that it wasn't that that was the problem.
Wins since June: iPod shuffle 1gb, Samsung g800, cinema ticket, lush retro giftbox, 2x mp3 downloads, a big box of food (???)

As superscaper said error code 74 MAY indicate the AV could be faulty or it is an indication that the scaler chip inside the box is faulty.
