Advice pls - sister off work due to cervical cancer

Hi all, I need some advice for my sisters family. Currently my sister is employed 8 hours per week, her partner is on long term incapacity benefit and they have 3 children under 10. My sister has been diagnosed with cervical cancer and will undergo surgery. She has been signed off work and will not be back for at least 3 months according to the doctor. I assume she will not get SSP from work due to the amount of hours worked so is there anything else she can claim? She doesnt like discussing her finances but I know neither her nor her partner are in the right frame of mind to be looking into this and I dont want things getting any worse than they are.
Many thanks

If she will not qualify for SSP, it's also unlikely she'll qualify for ESA (the new sick benefit), if she has only worked for 8 hrs pw for some time.
Her husb will be able to claim an increase of his IB for her- he needs to ask JCP for form IB10. In addition, he could also make a claim for Income Support.0 -
Many thanks, she dropped to 8 hrs pw about 3 months ago. Prior to that she worked 16 hrs pw.Back on slimming world after my second baby!!Lost 2 st 12 lbs after my first!Weight loss to date - 1 st0

They will be able to claim CTC irrespective of whether they work or not. I assume that they did not receive WTC anyway, because she did not work enough hours?Gone ... or have I?0

I assumed they do get WTC as the figure on entitled to with her working 1 - 15 hrs per week shows tax credits of £130 a week. Is it something to do with her partner claiming IB?Back on slimming world after my second baby!!Lost 2 st 12 lbs after my first!Weight loss to date - 1 st0

Not sure about her benefits, but there is some amazing help she can get from Macmillan, who help cover extra costs due to living with the treatment process, helping with travel etc they also I have just checked advice about benefits see link. Good luck, http://www.macmillan.org.uk/Get_Support/Financial_help/Financial_help.aspx0

No, they should not be receiving WTC if she is working less than sixteen hours and he is on long term IB. There is normally a screen that breaks down the tax credits total, so may be worth having another quick look?Gone ... or have I?0 -
