Not sure if this is the right thread so apologies if its not,
To cut to the chase i was thinking of buying a council house but it am in the middle of some DIY - nothing major just new skirting, and either laminate or wooden flooring. My question is will these alterations affect how much i have to pay when i eventually buy the house? Am i best off buying the house in its current state?
Any ideas here are welcome, and again apologies if in the wrong thread
Thanks

If you point out any improvements you have made to the valuer when he calls then these are not taken into account when setting the market value of the property. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
Market values from the council are not the same as estate agent valuations. They are usually much lower and the market value would be unlikely to be affected a great deal by decoration.
The decorative state would effect an estate agent valuation but not particularly that of a council surveyor.0 -
