When can I sell my tax free car

Hi all. I have a tax free car that I purchased whilst serving in Germany. It currently sits in my garage as I now have a smaller more economic car suited to driving back in the UK. I read documentation prior to leaving Germany that stated the car had to be kept for 12 months to BFG laws. However I know of someone who has recently sold a car under the same conditions but at the 6 month point and he has not been liable to tax. Does anyone know of any flaws in this decision, something about being able to purchase, or even register a car on return to BFG (loss of BFG entitlement)?
Hope this is an active thread and gets the stories flowing

Unless the rules have changed since I was there, so correct me if I'm wrong, you have to keep the car 6 months and a day from the date it was BFG'd to avoid repaying the VAT. Get this date wrong and you have a big tax bill coming your way - non negotiable.
If you sell within one year from BFG you get a 5 year BFG entitlement ban for the whole family. If you might be going back to Germany leave it until the 12 months is up.0
