how safe are online travel agents.

Hello everyone.

First of all, This is my first post on here so Apologies if I put this in the wrong place...

I wanted to get some advice from any frequent fliers or regular travellers about the safety of using the internet for getting quotes.

I'm flying out to Hong Kong where my Fianc!e is currently working as a graduate designer adn have been looking at quotes to fly on either one of two days, Either 3rd Jan 09 or 15 Jan 09.

I had a look on the internet and found very competitive quotes from companies that i had never heard of, so I went to a travel agency and asked them and they gave me a more expensive quote with another company I had never heard of.

I was just wondering what other people do as I've only ever been on a plane once before and it was all organised by my partner.

Thanks in advance.

  • Which Companies?
  • The ones online are...

    wefly.co.uk
    ebookers.com
    opodo
    Southall Travel

they all come in at under £600 which is really good for a long term return. British Airways are £650

and the travel agency I spoke to quoted £560 ish with Jet Airways.

I have no idea if any of these are reliable... and with BA at an extra £50, i'm wondering if its better to pay the extra for the security.

    Thanks

These are fine. I've used the first two, but not Southall Travel, however I've heard they're A1. Never heard of wefly.

Jet Airways are a superb Airline and I've used them on flights to and Internal India. I assume your flight with them would be via Mumbai or Delhi?
  • Thanks very much for your help.

They were coming up much more competitive than a lot of other companies so i was wondering if they were going to be too good to be true!

    thanks again for your help.

BA, Cathay Pacific, Virgin, Qantas, Air New Zealand all fly direct between London and Hong Kong, so there is plenty of choice.
The problem with travel agents is that they sometimes impose additional terms and conditions as well as those of the airline, so it is worth checking the airlines' websites to see if the direct price with the airline is a similar price.
