18185 - blocked by Tiscali?

I used to be able to dial this 18185 number, but Tiscali appear to have blocked it. I've heard of this being done from other on here as well. Tiscali charge a fortune for calls to mobile etc, so who can I use to get around this?

  • Thats one of the disadvantages in moving your line rental to Tiscali.
Only BT have to allow indirect access to the likes of 18185.

As you say their calls to mobiles are expensive especially if your calling someone on 3.

You can reduce them at peak rate and weekends by using 18185 via their 0808 freephone number. http://www.18185.co.uk/mobilerates.php

Or you could use one of the 0871 access numbers shown in the MSE Callchecker.

I believe Tiscali now charge more then BT to call 0871 numbers.

If they haven't also blocked 18185's 0808 1 703 703 gateway number, you will be able to use that - albeit having to pay more during the week than you used to using the 18185 prefix (4p connection + 10p/minute).
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
  • Thanks a lot folks - I've looked at the 0808 number and it works perfectly. I'd hate to be forced by Tiscali into giving them my calls because they've blocked 18185 :-)

    Thanks again!
