I would like to close my Kaupthing account but can't find an option on my account.

How is this done?

    See http://www.kaupthingedge.co.uk/Includes/PDF/tandcs.pdf

Just send them one of their 'secure messages' through the site. That's what I did.

I did that four weeks ago and I am still waiting for my cash. I've sent three further secure messages, each time they reply and say it is being actioned. The last time they said they were exceptionally busy with account closures. I'd be interested to know if anyone else has managed to close their account.

Why not just empty it and ignore it for 3 months???

    Exactly, that's what I've done.
  • I have drained the account to zero, and got the money after six days of waiting, by CHAPS ( they paid for it ) transfer, but there should be £30 or so of interest due, so I rang them today and they will close the account and transfer the money to linked account. In the same call my wife instructed the same. ... Let you know when I get the closing statement.

I opened one with KE just before the Icesave crash and I never put in funds. I e mailed them to say close it but they e mailed back saying I had to phone them. Not likely and pay the call charge waiting for ages. I will just leave it with zero balance until they close it. Cheeky sods even e mailed me to tell me the interest rate had gone down to 4.5%.

Surely you lose interest if you just take the money out?

Interest is only credited at the start of the month and if you take it out on day 21 you'll lose some, or have to go back and do another transfer.

Or do I understand this wrong?

they state that interest is calculated daily and paid monthly, I don't see anywhere in the T&Cs that state you will incur a penalty if you make a withdrawal.
