Hey guys, this is a really interesting thread! :T

Im a bit surprised that we all are keen moneysavers, aware of the rising prices in the big 4 and yet still shop there. As much as I think its bad that price fixing goes on, we dont have to shop at Tesco or Asda - we choose to, so if somethings too expensive, you can choose not to shop there. For mobiles, electricity, hotels ect - we all shop around happily for the best deal, but when it comes to food, we seem to be stuck it the mode of getting everything from the supermarket.

I think this is largely because we have long working hours compared to many countries in Europe, added to the fact that there are virtually no local stores left selling food.
    This leaves:
getting it all from one big supermarket
    or
going to Aldi/lidl/netto etc and then going to the supermarket for the stuff they dont sell,
    or
going to several large and small supermarkets to cherry pick the best offers.

I think it depends on how much time you have. If you stick to only one store you inevitably have to pay extra for the convenience of this.

Look carefully at the labels on the shelves too. The other day I found in Mr S that a number of Organic items were only a penny or so more than their basic & "normal ranges" including- milk/ dog food/ chickpeas/ pasta shapes.
I agree in Mr S the organic passata is actually cheaper than their own brand
