Toilet without cistern

I'm planning on installing a toilet, basin and shower in what was a cupboard space above the stairs. There is space for everything but to maximise space I would like to use some sort of space saving toilet. Is there such a thing as a toilet that doesn't need a cistern and simply works off the mains water?
Thanks

Yes, but only if you have a mains supply that can provide the flow rate required (maybe 100 litres per minute?), and I doubt that any domestic mains can do this.
You don't have to mount the cistern in the usual place above the pan. I've installed a toilet with a cistern at right angles to it (but not as high as a high-level cistern). I had to be quite creative with the flush pipe.Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.0 -

Check out that link for some space-saving ideas. Be careful if modifying cistern flush-pipes. If the cistern ends up higher than the recommended height for the design of the pan then you may have problems with splashing, likewise if the cistern is lower than it should be (in the case of high and low level suites), then the flush may not be effective. Always check the recommendations with the manufacturer's technical department before making modifications.0 -
Yes that's true - I guess I was lucky! The pan I used had a concealed cistern - so higher than close-coupled - and I didn't raise it all that much. The flush is extremely effective and doesn't splash.Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.0
