Hsbc debit card query

Hi guys,
does anyone know if HSBC are doing a general new issue of debit cards? I'm just trying to figure out if someone/something is trying to scam me. My account appears in good order, no unauthorised transactions (checked in real time on internet banking). The odd thing is, an online order I did a couple of days ago seems to have been rejected, saying to check card details, they are as they should be. I went onto my internet banking to check everything was okay and it has an option to activate a new card. I've never requested a new card and my current one is in date, so it just seems a bit odd. Like I said, I haven't seen any weird activity on my account, but I thought I'd see if anyone else has ever had something similar...I would have at least thought they'd tell me they would issue me with a new card before randomly stopping the other one. Does anyone think I have anything to be concerned by?

Why not ring them and ask? We can speculate about what might be happening with your account, or you could ask the people who have records of what has happened with your account.
I'd personally be doing that once I had an order rejected for no good reason, let alone anything else...If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything0 -
HSBC are changing from Maestro to Visa. So instead of a Solo card or whatever you will get a Visa card.
Chances are starting from Dec and rolling out through 2009 and 2010.0 -
Speak to the bank about your card being declined, but the Activate New Card thing is fine.0

My RBS online banking also has the option to activate a new card all the time, even though I am not being sent one.Kavanne

Everyone's does, IIRC. It's in anticipation of the Visa Debit rollout.0
