ipod and ipod docking station help please

I have just purchased this for my daughter

a Cygnett Groove Tunes ipod docking station from Toys R Us. The box says it plays all ipods including the 1st, 2nd and 3rd gen.
I want to get her the new pink ipod. Will this fit this ipod docking station? What generation are the new ipods being sold at the moment?
I asked the sales assistant and she said that the new ipods would fit this, but when I have just looked on Amazon it appears that some of them do not fit the 3rd gen ipods?

The ipod in the picture is the 3rd gen nano. Which ipod are you buying for your daughter shuffle , nano , touch or classic? If its the nano the new ones are 4th generation. You can still get the 3rd gen ones tho if you look hard enough . Thats the one i would go for just to make sure.

To be honest, I wanted to buy her the new one. So I gather that is the 4g then? I have just looked at the Cygnett website and it says that it plays and charges the 1,2 and 3g ipod nanos, but only plays but doesnt charge the 4g??? why would they make it so it played and worked as an alarm clock and speaker, but not charge it? I am peeed off now!!! I'd rather have one that charges as well so looks like that one is going back to the shop!

Its nothing to do with the company who make the docking stations , its Apple who have changed the voltage on the charging units inside the new ipods forcing people ( who may have spent £100s on docking stations) to buy new kit if they upgrade their ipods. Even Apples own (old) docking stations dont work with the new ipods . Talk about good customer relations . If you google it and have a look at the forums , a lot of people are unhappy.
