I would write to the bank to reclaim all charges over the last 5/6 years.

Not sure about paying into someone elses account, but you could probably open a basic account with the co-op or postoffice. Don't forget to cancel the directdebits if there are any.

  • whilst i was waiting to open a cashminder account at the coop i had my wages paid into my mums bank account until that account was open. Hope this helps!
  • What does it mean when they put my account in default i owe £1600 in overdraft and i have a loan with them but i cannot find the paperwork , even worse is the bank has lost the paperwork , can they enforce the loan if they cannot prove how much i owe

A default notice means they have placed a default on your credit file to show you have defaulted on payments to your account (usually after 3 missed payments).

If your bank does not have the loan paperwork, then they cannot prove that the debt is yours. You could write and request a copy of the customer credit agreement (CCA - cost £1). If they are unable to provide a copy of the agreement within 12 working days, then the debt is unenforcable and payments need no longer be made.

    You can't CCA an overdraft.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.
  • After I was made bankrupt in July this year I have been having my wages paid into my husbands account, without any problems. Hope this helps.
