NR share compensation scheme Letter

anyone else received this letter?, certainly looks genuine..

Dear Sir or Madam (yeah, really, but my full name/address at the top)

Independent Valuation under the Northern Rock plc Compensation Scheme Order

I was appointed by HM Treasury on 8 September 2008 as Independent Valuer under the Northern Rock plc Compensation Scheme Order 2008. It is my role to determine the amount of any compensation payable by HM Treasury to the persons secified in Part2 of the Compensation Scheme.

The role of the Independent Valuer os to conduct a fair, open and transparent valuation in accordance with the Compensation Scheme.
It is consistent with this role that i proceed with reasonable speed.

In order to assist me in my role I have assembled a team of people to support me, including,
  • my team of valuation experts at BDO Stoy Hayward LLP,
  • Panmure Gordon & Co who will support me by providing such information concerning the banking, securities and financial assets markets as I may consider necessary or helpful to enable me to undertake the valuation, and
  • Mayer Brown International LLP who will provide me with legal advice as I require it.
4 pages in all,

  • Thanks for that blf,
those links answer the question nicely

i thought maybe it was a pressure group forming a case against the govt, but those links show that this is indeed the agreed process initiated by the govt.
So will wait and see. Thanks.
  • If that is an exact copy of the letter then I would be very suspicious. There are some very unprofessional errors in both spelling and grammar - eg. "os", "i", "secified".
I'd want to check it's authenticity carefully before submitting any details?
  • Thanks for that, well spotted,
the 'secified' and ' os' are my typos :o

but i'm not responsible for any grammatical errors in the letter, although plenty elsewhere :)

i believe it is genuine, but thanks for raising doubts and the possibility of being otherwise.

Glad it wasn't just me that spotted those errors, it mirrors a lot of spam emails that we all get.

Also, it just doesn't seem to be worded correctly, I cannot put my finger on what exactly is wrong, it just doesn't read correctly to me.
  • it read slightly odd to me when i first opened it, which is the reason i posted the question to see if anyone else had received it.

this is not an email, but a letter correctly addressed to myself,
there are 4 pages in all explaining the valuation and consultation process and asking for my input,

But cross-referencing with the govt website laying out the NR compensation scheme, together with the links from blf, do show that Andrew Caldwell, who sent the letter, is indeed the 'Independent Valuer appointed by HM Treasury under the Northern Rock plc Compensation Scheme 2008"

this is the govt website which announces the scheme

    http://www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si2008/uksi_20080718_en_1

but i admit i was a little sceptical at first, thinking it may have been the intention to form a pressure group to lobby the govt.

If you are worried about the authenticity of this letter then send an email to northern.rock@bdo.co.uk.

I got this email address from the HM Treasury press release.
Did you really mean to put loose?
Lose: no longer possess, not to retain, unable to find
Loose: not firmly or tightly fixed in place

I received mine yesterday as well, best to just sit back and wait for likely notification in due course that our NR shareholdings are virtually worthless. :embarasse
