Have the laptops got some sort of firewall that is enabled? Try disabling any firewalls and see if that helps.0

It's only got the xp firewall, and for the programmes I'm using they are unblocked!! Not sure if the belkin builtin firewall is the problem? I'm not sure how to adjust the setting on that one??!!Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 092

Try turning off the Windows XP Firewall as well just in case there is a problem with that one.0 -

I dont think turning of the firewall is a complete solution, you're opening your machine to a whole lot of bad stuff. An unprotected windows xp installation can be infected in a matter of minutes if connected to the internet without a firewall.
If you are finding that you get things working without the firewall the likely cause is your firewall is set to block port 25 and 110 on outgoing connections, so check that on the belkin and check for your email program name in the windows xp firewall configuration in the list of blocked programs and remove it from that list.0 -
I haven't turned the firewall off.. there all working at one with my xp security protection thingy and belking built in firewall!Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 092

right..... somebody mentioned firewall and then everybody else went off on the firewall story, so back to what you said.
You bought 2 new laptops, so you'd have had to reconfigure the mail clients. What ISP do you use and what pop & smtp settings have you got in there? (just so we can eliminate the obvious)0 -
I've put in all the smtp and pop3 settings, but the test email doesn't work (but I'm not getting any errors and I was before!). I tried sending an email and it's work all apart from one that gives me errors about Task??!!!Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 092
