help needed with npower

Hi all i am on the online tarrif with npower and i have been paying £70 per month however i should have been paying more so last week changed my S.O to £30 per week. Now i have arrears of £800 approx now they are saying they going to put me on a prepayment meter and i have no choice in the matter. Apart from paying the arrears outright what can i do?

Have they asked you to increase your monthly payment? Was £30 rejected because it was not enough, because it wasn't a DD or because it was weekly?0

I take it that this was paying by Standing Order and not Direct Debit?
When you say that "I should have been paying more" can we assume that you were told to pay more and refused?
You don't say how long it took you to run up the £800 bill?
If £70 was not enough and you ran up an £800 bill in, say, 18 months, it is probable that £120 a month will not even cover your bills, let alone start to pay back the £800 - bear in mind that there has been a huge price rise recently.
The company have every right to put you on a pre-payment meter or cut you off and chase you through the courts for their money.
You are aware that a pre-payment tariff is a lot more than an on-line tariff?
