Contribution JSA help needed.

Hi,

I started claiming JSA the start of October, I left my employment in July for many reasons but one of the most important was that I have a brother that is tetraplegic and my parents care for him basically 24/7 and decided that I would go and stay with them for a while to help out (they live 90 miles away from me), such as doing the shopping, cooking, cleaning, taking my brother out etc
I was never asked by my family to do any of this I just thought it would be a nice thing to do for them.
I recieved a letter stating my claim had been accepted about the 14th October but this morning i received a letter asking for further info to decide my claim! They want to know my brothers full condition and care required, why my parents don't get respite care from their authority and why the help was reqiured from me? Exact dates that i provided respite for my parents?

I scared now that I might have my JSA stopped or have got my parents in some sort of trouble?? Any advice would be appreciated! :o

You left employment to help provide respite care for your parents? So they live 90 miles away, are you travelling daily or staying with them? Are you looking for work in their area or your area and which area have you made your claim to benefit in?

To claim JSA you need to be available and actively seeking work so I would imagine this is the reason for the questions? Are you available and actively seeking?

I don't believe you'll get your parents into trouble, its nothing to do with them, Jobcentre Plus are just trying to ascertain if you fulfill the requirements to claim benefits.

Sorry i didn't explain myself very well, I stayed with my parents from July to the end of august, during this time i never claimed.

i came back to the area where i live at the start of september.
I didn't claim straight away and tried in vain to fnd work, after my savings had gone by the start of October i made a claim for Contribution JSA.

From the date I started claiming i have adhered to all the rules and have been actively seeking work and am available. I just wonder why i got a letter stating they have agreed my claim then a few weeks later they want all this information.

Because they are trying to decide if you had a 'valid' reason for leaving employment - if not then your money may be stopped for up to 6 months
