  • As you have not used it for a year could it have got moved and shaken around?

If so some of the connections may have worked loose inside the computer. If you feel confident you could open the box up and gently push all the connecting leads you can see securely into their sockets.

    Good luck

sounds like the hdd has seized, some times a few switch ons will make it free but sometimes not
the reason for the cd not opening could also be the front button has jammed try tapping it for a while maybe a tiny amount of wd50 in at the edge of the button

stick a paper clip in the hole

if none of the drives open, and no lights come on the drives, it would suggest a power issue, check the power connectors
A paper clip in what hole?

The paper clip goes right through the hole! the power connectors seem ok. Thanks anyway for the quick reply.

wiggle it about, and push it all the way in, you should feel some resistance if you are doing it right, and the drawer will open

if that doesn't work, try ejecting them as soon as the pc boots.
It will open slightly using the paper clip!allowing me to open it, but still no lights and i have to close it manually.
