HSBC Share Dealing - £5.97 per trade

Hello all
HSBC are having a 'sale' and are offering 50% off InvestDirect and InvestDirect Plus online trading up to 31 March 2006 if you open an account during the sale period.
Normally they charge £11.95 per trade but under the sale it would be £5.97.
You must be an HSBC Bank sterling current account holder to use this service

I have an investdirect account but not totally sure how to use it !!
It says I have GBP 100,000 not sure what that is as I have never loaded any money in to it... any ideas?
If anyone has a moment could someone take the time to explain to dumb bumb here how the service works.
