I'm very interested in this as I bought a blouse last month for an event next month, lol. I haven't worn it yet and would definitely return it to re-purchase at 20% off!

The receipt says I have 90 days to return it. Has anyone had a problem returning unworn items with the tags still on if you've had it a month or so? Also, will they let me just get a refund and re-buy the same item, or should I get a refund and then pull another item off the rack to buy?

My husband used to work as a secruity guard in M&S. M&S have a "buy back" policy (see, it even has a name). People would buy their goods before Xmas and keep the receipts and tags on the items. After Xmas, they would go to the returns counter to retrun the items and say they wanted "buy back". They would then buy the exact same items back at the lower price.

One year one lady saved £1,000's of pounds on leather coats by doing "buy back".

I want to be credit card and loan free by Christmas 2010
  • Hope this helps with the 3 for 2 offer, looks like its the 3rd 6th & 9th price that's free....ermm this explains it a bit better lol http://www.marksandspencer.com/gp/browse.html/ref=sc_iw_r_3_64514031_1/280-7671640-0052738?ie=UTF8&node=179012031&no=64514031&mnSBrand=core&me=A2BO0OYVBKIQJM
  • As a current M&S employee I was told that the 20% discount offer is actually running instore from Thursday 20th to Saturday 22nd inclusive - looks like it is different online. Our store is opening from 6am till 12pm to cope with demand. Wine and "some" Home goods will also be included in the offer but we have not been informed of any such offer running in the Technology department. Also, for the ladies who still haven't got an outfit for Christmas the current 20% off promotion which is running on dresses and "occasionalwear" will still apply from Thursday - which means that you can get almost double discount on these goods.
Spare a thought for me working Thursday night!
  • Usually it's SA's discretion, staff definately aren't allowed to do it, so customers would be a big no no. It's just not fair on everybody else, in our customer services, when they refund an item it goes straight onto a resorting rail so the customer doesn't touch it again.

  • On the buyback thing, our customer services department will no longer allow you to buy back the item once you have returned it if the item is showing on the system as having been reduced. Once you have returned it to the ownership of M&S it is their responsibility to put the item out the back to be reprocessed before it is eventually put out on the shop floor again - which could actually take a couple of hours depending upon how busy the store is. Which means that you could be waiting around for hours for the item to be put back onto the floor, only to have it whisked away under your eyes by another eagle eyed customer or even a member of staff on their break who has seen the price of the item and requisitioned it for themselves. If you really like the item, I wouldn't risk it!

I dont think this would be permitted any more. As an ex-employee, we were NEVER allowed to resell an item that some one returned. Things were put behind the screens, to be 'processed', before being returned to sales floor later. And if we want Marks and Spencers to remain in business, thats the way it should be IMO.
