sound gone on laptop

any ideas? the cat keeps sitting on it and doing allsorts. now the sounbd has totally gone on it. I've checked the box in the little toolbar on the bottom right, and that's ok! could it be anythng else?

    thankyou for the suggestion but that didn't work! the only available restore point was today!! Any other suggestions? i've no idea what she's done!

  • Check the function keys in the row at the top F1 F2 F3 etc these often act as an on/off switch for the speaker.

    You may have press the control (crl) or function if you have one at the same time. Look for a picture of a speaker on the top row of your keyboard first.

    thanks. it's back now, for some reason. i put it into google and typed sndvol32 into the run bar and now it's working again!

    'd make sure that system restor works then , try turning it off to flush it out , then turn it back on , if its XP or vista then it should do them as a matter of course
