What should I do?

Hello again!

In June '08, I wrote to Northern Rock Plc using the PPI reclaim letter template here on the site (thanks Martin!) with regards to a loan I took out in December 2006.

They wrote back to me telling me that they work closely with the ombudsman & because of this I had no case for a claim. Oh well I thought! Now I'm thinking I should write back again, having read some other posts.

What do you think?

    Hi there
Right lets get this right now.
What your saying is that Northern Rock says you have not got a case because they are working closely with the Ombudsman ?

Hun, this should not make any difference, when you taken out this loan that firm were covered/regulated by the FSA, so in that case the FOS will investigate your complaint.
Your eligible yourself here, so why Northern Rocks states that I am baffled...... .

So did they actually say that "you have no case"?

I will try to find the letter for the exact wording. Basically the woman at Northern Rock said they she had looked in to the claim & believes that I have no reason for a claim and as they work closely with the ombudsman they will not look in to it any further.

The reason I wrote to them is because the agent that sold me the policy didn't mention that if I had depression i would not be covered. Unfortunately I suffer from Bipolar (manic depression), so would have had a nasty surprise had I not been able to pay because of the illness i.e. if I was off work for a long period of time. As Northern Rock wouldn't cover me.

Also they told be that I would improve my chances of getting the loan if I took out the PPI.

    Thanks for this hun.
Write back and tell them you are not happy with their response and if they do not reconsider your complaint - you will not hesitate but take this complaint to the Financial ombudsman service for them to investigate.

Can you remember how this was sold to you?
Was it over the phone by any chance hun?

  • Thanks again Di!

I believe it was over the phone, but now I think about it I'm not 100% sure. Am I confusing this with another loan I have had in the past?? It's been a long day!lol

I suppose that if I did it online, I've got no chance as it would have been up to me to read all the info thoroughly.

    Oh well.

Just to say, I am having a few puter probs so if for some reason I have not posted back its because of that.;)
But I intend to post if I can, but if not, you will also receive some very helpful replies on the actual PPI reclaim-discussion forum.

If you click on loans first you will come up with all these threads, you will see at the top of that page that site mentioned.;)
If not replied too tonight I am sure you will have some by tomorrow.

However while I'm still here I will help and post all I can.:D

    Oh well.

Okay then maybe you could ask them for a copy of the phone recordings, if they do not provide this for you free of charge a SAR (subject Access request) may be more of an help here.
With the SAR they have to provide you with EVERYTHING they have on you, but there is a £10 cheque or postal order charge for this, but it maybe worth your while.

I will post up the SAR in a post in a min for you.;)

As explained in my above post, here is a template for a SAR, they have 40 days to comply with this and must supply you with everything they have on you, like how this was sold etc and the ppi and so on, recorded calls, emails, just everything.

Still continue with the complaint reclaim letter if you decide to send them an SAR.
    Good luck:SAR Template below:

The only reason I didn't go to that thread straight away, is because people tend to have some full on conversations going on. I didn't want to get in the way.

lol, well your most welcome.........:D , just come along hun, its for claims like yours, and you will not get in the way - besides we all get carried away chatting.......lol........:rotfl: :rotfl: , but we await for lovely members like yourself, so please just post anytime.:j ;) .

Oh and even if you did buy on the internet, you could have still been mis sold, I know some have still been successful by this type of selling as some of these crafty companies have added in the ppi without your knowledge, where customers have signed where they are told to sign.....and so on.

So you still have a good chance hun.;)
They should have made sure you were eligible before selling this to you first.
