Quicktime/Realplayer

I keep my list of start up programs as minimal as possible for performance reasons. I use MediaPlayer however sometimes I have to use Quicktime and Realplayer (which generaly I avoid). Everytime I load them up they install themselves in my startup programs and MS AntiSpyware alerts me but lets it go ahead. How can I stop this happening please?
Thanks

To fix quicktime's little game: first kill the qttask process (use Task Manager); then rename C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe to something like qttask_!!!!!!_off_and_never_come_back.exe (your location may differ).
I don't use Real player, but there is a product called Real Alternative that is supposed to be less intrusive.

Each time you use RealPlayer or QuickTime it is probable that they set up one of the registry keys so that they will be loaded on the next restart.
There are a couple (at least) of alternative ways to turn them off:
a) use Spybot Search and Destroy in Mode -> Advanced, and click on Tools (at the bottom) then System Startup (higher up). In the right-hand pane identify the appropriate QuickTime and/or RealPlayer tasks, and remove the tick from the preceding box.
OR
b) in Windows Explorer, navigate to C:\Windows\PCHealth\HelpCtr\Binaries and double-click on msconfig.exe, then on the Startup tab at the right. Remove the tick in front of the appropriate QuickTime and/or RealPlayer tasks.
As I said earlier, running either program again will probably cause the tick to be restored in the appropriate box.
To avoid this saga, you can try instead of the former bloated and annoying programs, Real Alternative and/or QuickTime Alternative. I use the former almost every day to play comedy stuff from BBC 7.
Good luck!

Thanks for your replies....
I'm using Spybot at the moment and use the start-up option. However I have to do this eachtime after using RP/QT.
StephenB - I've used your suggestion - thanks.
John Gray - I'll have a look at your alternatives - they sound promising!0
