Got parking ticket on Bank Holiday ..help!

Parked at a place we always park in Manchester (near Smart garage). After 12.30 on Sats and Sundays it is free to park there. We have parked on Bank Holidays many times there. However, we got a ticket yesterday. NOT HAPPY!!!

The actual notice says Parking for 30mins Monday to Friday between 9-6 and until 12.30 on Saturdays. No mention of Bank Holidays. (Everyone else had a red penalty notice too..)
Really cross as we would have parked somewhere else had we known...

Help/advice would be brill folks xx

Where I live all the usual parking restrictions are in place on Bank Holidays, the only day they are different is Sunday.

Shall I actually give you some advice - what you asked for rather than a telling off.

I received a parking fine in Blackpool this summer - the ticket machine was out of order and I could not see another machine (outside the pleasure beach). We had already paid for parking at the back of the Aquarium. I sent a cheque (so they can send it back), my original parking and a letter. And they sent it me my money back.

Just try it. Send a letter with a cheque and ask for a receipt. (They have to respond that way). Pay it quickly to get the reduced rate. What do you have to lose ;-)

That's really helpful thanks! Will try that...have already done the letter...no harm in putting cheque in and requesting receipt as well. Cheers

If the notice does not mention bank holidays excepted, then you have to take that it is still chargeable.

Most people simply assume that a lot of restrictions do not apply on bank holidays, e.g. bus lanes - Monday to Friday 4.30pm to 6.30pm. Even though no buses are running on Boxing Day (Monday) at all, this restriction still applies because it does not say bank holidays excepted. I do agree that this is totally ridiculous but rules are rules.

If anyone has made a phone call on Boxing Day during daytime, did you realise that you were being charged the peak daytime rate by your telephone company?

Thanks to all positive posts here. I think mum will end up paying this but we live and learn.(It's just when so many stories are heard of parking attendants making money unfairly that I just wanted to check that the ticket was legit. Cheers again

Have a Happy New Year folks xx

only our council car parks are free on sundays and bh (except good friday),and the notice on the ticket machine states this. ncp and other car-parks charge for sundays/bh. i always read what the ticket machine says and if there is no mention of it being free then i pay.

good luck with writing the letter though.
