Best Currency to use

I'm travelling to Thailand, Laos, Vietnam & Cambodia shortly & i'm wondering which is the best currency to pay for visas. It used to be Dollars, but with the high exchange rate, might it be cheaper to pay in the national currency?

Dollars not accepted in Thailand so take sterling or get your visa from the Royal Thai Consulate in Hull before you go. Dollars ok for Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia.

Cambodia uses dollars for everything but small change - take small denomination notes, ideally good quality. Coins are not used.
  • Thanks for you input, but might it be cheaper to pay in the national currency?
  • I assume but i maybe wrong so correct me if i am. You are going in on the 30 day visa that we get from Thailand and then travelling around the other places?
If you are you can do all your visa's in Bangkok easy enough. If not and you are spending more than 30 straight days in Thailand without doing a border run you need a visa for Thailand. I also say get it from the Consulate in Hull. I used to fly in on a one way ok with this, not sure if it is still the case that you can? It is more likely the airline who will stop you from boarding in the UK than problem in Thailand though. I would also say get dollars for Cambodia, it is the main thing you will spend and you will often get small change in the way of cambodian currency.
