Immersion heaters would i save electric??

I currently have my immersion heater on 24/7 would i save on electric if i set it to be on timer or maybe just put it on as and when i wanted hot water??
just been checking how much elec im using and to me seems high so thinking of ways to save
advice will be greatly received!!

The other factor is the insulation how good is it was it factory fitted or have you used a jacket as the heat loss will be very small say overnight which means any hot water not used straight away will still be available hours later.Look after the pennies and the pounds will spend themselves0
