I have just fitted a new clutch kit, clutch cable and clutch arm to my 95' Escort 1.8d. Only I have the same problem as I had before the change. The clutch pedal hit the floor and stayed there. The clutch arm now moves back and forth freely, there is no pressure there. Anybody know what could be causing this? Is it something to do with the primary gear drive? or the mounting for the clutch bearing?

The arm or the pedal? If it's the pedal, the Escort uses a ratchet system at the top of the clutch pedal for cable adjustment. They have a plastic bit that snaps off. It's this whole unit that needs replacing. Good news is it's dirt cheap for the part. Bad news is it's a sod of a job to do.
If it's the clutch arm, chances are you didn't put the release bearing on properly.0
