    In simple terms it's because you're being charged interest on the balance.
  • ive got 2 other cards now, which i pay minimum payments on. but the payments on them dont go up each month.

    i cant understand how it can go up nearly £20 since May, without a transaction

    Prior to October your minimum payment was calculated as 'interest + £5'.

    From October your minimum payment is calculated as 2.25% of the balance.

    However, the minimum payment is just that...a minimum. You can, and SHOULD, pay more.

    To say you're "fairly new" to credit cards, you seem to have got the hang of racking up debt on them pretty quickly!
