I went through the online process for this account last night.
Then having read other posts, I rang them and a nice man opened the account straight away.
So armed with a sort code and my account number, I went into my Halifax branch this morning and asked if I could bank a cheque to this Bank of Scotland account.
They took me into a room (didn't have to wait in a queue;) ) and did the necessary.
I do have accounts with Halifax already, so don't know if this helped the process.

One thing I've just noticed - the receipt for my cheque states CHEQUE (AVAIL. TUE 25/11) What's that about?

I also paid a cheque (at the same time) into the current account they talked me into.
But that receipt states CHEQUE (AVAIL. THU 20/11):confused:

They have different clearance times for savings accounts and current accounts. They do pay interest from day 2 on both accounts though, against uncleared funds.

An odd one, but I think they take a slightly higher risk on the current account!

Banks don't tell each other cheques have bounced too quickly!!!!
  • BOS pay 5.12% on their current account still afaik

Just noticed the advertised "open and fund before, although may be withdrawn earlier" date for this account has been moved from 1 Dec to 26 Nov.

I am now able to access my IASA details, but the interest rate is shown as 5.65%, has anyone got the same problem?

Thats the rate you get if you get monthly interest. If the interest is left in the account it will equate to 5.80
