Totally fed up with remanufactured cartridges, refilling need an economical printer?

Hi there,

I am totally fed up after many years with Lexmark printers (I currently have one of the x series all in ones) refilling the cartridges (with the subsequent mess, ink on fingers etc) also have tried many companies who do remanufactured cartridges which stop working after a week or so. I would like a more economical printer where I can buy each individual colour at a fair price, all the better if it’s an all in one.

Any suggestions appreciated? I don’t want a really expensive job, just something that will print out the everyday stuff.

Many thanks Joe

  • I've always liked epson or HP printers, both have cheap carts available, my epson r200 is around 4 years old and has not seen any genuine carts since new, i just buy 40-60 at a time from fleabay.
I did once buy a lexmark, never, ever, ever again, running costs far too high, i'm not going to mess about refilling carts, £1 or so each and chuck 'em away.
not personally a fan of 'all in one', I suppose it comes with my hatred for 'midi' systems in the 80s and 90s, get 1 good thing, and another good thing, not something mediocre which does 2 jobs

Ive used epsons and epson compatible printers for years and have never had any problems. The ink i buy seems to last for a long time too.

The more expensive the better though, i had an epson 760 for 5 years, cost me £300 new, got a new one recently for £40 and its not nearly as good as the old one was for print quality, but they don't make them anymore.

My father has the epson R200 like the poster above, he uses it to print stuff for his kids(he is a teacher) and it suits him fine. Ink for it is just over £4 for a full set of compatibles which i think is 5 cartridges.
  • only 1 off, 6 carts :)

  • HI again,

Thanks for all replies. Well I can pick an Epson Stylus SX200 All-in-One for £39. Anyone got this particular printer and if the cartridges are cheap enough? Can I buy a separate cartridge for each colour and also do I need a chip resetter thingy?

    many thanks

I Have an epson all in one printer a DX4400, i think its an older version of the ones you are looking at as it looks identical. Mine was is Okay considering it cost only £40, but i never use the scanner so i wish i had bought a less bulky one.

The site i get my ink from sells the ink for the SX200 for £7.64 a set(6), they are the same brand as the ones i get so they should come pre-chipped.

Separate cartridges are also available at £1.60 each.
