Hi , great responses , thank you all.
Its hard to describe the sound , but theres also a high pitch sound that comes out and maybe a bit like a friction sound????
Basically , i know every computer gets a sound where it works hard and it can sort of sound like slight scraping , does anyones elses hard drive give out any noise??? If so , what ones???
My old Maxtor made a similar sound (And every time I was convinced it was going to die on me) to what you describe evrty few months or so (Like it had hit the end of its 'travel' or suchlike)
Its not SUPPOSED to though. If its that new you really should get it replaced:idea:0 -
Backup everything now.
If the drive is failing, then you need to ensure you have a copy of everything.
Scan as per fwor's advice, and if in doubt (or errors are reported on the physical disc) replace the HD, a failing won't last long. The usual give away is excessive "ticking" noises.0 -
Thnak you ,

The registry cleaner flipping well does. In fact, many registry cleaners do.
Every other registry cleaner I would certainly attest to. However, I personally havnt heard of CCLEANER having deleted ANY registry it shouldnt have in the past 3 years at least (Older versions were a touch dodgy mind)
Not saying it hasnt, this would indeed be the first ive heard of (But then I ALWAYS say if anyones about to use CCLEANERS registry cleaner, they should BACK IT UP when it asks to):idea:0 -

You backed up your registry?
ALL hard drives make a sort of 'scratching' sound as the heads move. But a 'high pitched' tone usually means its knackered (As does a 'clicking' sound as somone mentioned above). Its all down to who manufactured them which determines how they 'normally' sound. All new decent units tend to be fairly quiet though.:idea:0 -
Just a comment in the general area.
According to wikipedia S.M.A.R.T stands for Self Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology. The hard disk in question may well know if it is struggling to perform its duty. There are so many statistics that can be logged it is difficult to know what is a good reading or a bad one. There are links in the article to software that can report on the staus of the hard disk.

Hi , i run the restore last night but the sound is still there

I think the only thing to do is send it back to hp for repair , wonder how long thats gonna take ?
By the way , i thought of another way to describe it. It sort of sounds like that noise you hear on the radio when it is not tuned in, but the volume is low.
As i need to send it back i need somewhere with about 4 gigs of memory , anyone know an easier way to back it up?
Oh yes , i do not have any disks
Thanks:dance: I am great , yes I am
