Car Insurance - Proof of address?

Options
Hiya guys,

I've just moved house and got a really cheap insurance quote for my car in the process.

I'm nervous about going ahead with it because I can't remember if you need to prove you live at a particular address for car insurance. Does anyone know if you need to? I've only just moved in so none of my bills have arrived yet and my insurance is up on the 25th Nov.

If I can't use this address I'll have to use my parents where the cost is considerably more.

Any advice or an answer to my question is greatly appreciated!

Ive never been asked for proof of address. but I think they somehow connect with dvla, as dvla know if your insured or not when renewing your tax online. so as long as your driving licence address is same as insurance should be fine.

It would also give the insurance company a reason not to pay out in the event of a claim as you would have lied on the application.

You dont need prove of address.

  • i had this problem a couple of years ago, i had just moved and my son was going from junior to high school. they needed proof of address and i had nothing. Eventually (after some negotiation) they accepted a copy of my tenancy agreement.

DVLA do not know if a vehicle is insured or not, and insurance companies do not have access to DVLA's database either.

When you tax online/phone you agree to an electronic check being made to the Motor insurance Database which purely says yes or no if a vehicle is insured or not.
