on the other hand most small cheques aren't signature checked anyway, so you could probably make up a new signature rather than giving your real one out

Agree with what has already been said, snatch their hand off, no risk of paypal chargeback and more money in your pocket as there will be no paypal fees to pay
This ebay review IMHO contains valuable info on Bank Transfer

I assume that the buyer is UK - should be no risk in providing bank details, but pesonally I would check the persons feedback - if they are a new buyer with little or no feedback I might be more cautious (the above posters are correct that you get more info on a cheque, but there are certain risks, albeit small, in giving your details - for example a direct debit could be set-up).
If the buyer is overseas, then that is a different matter as you would question why they would pay the cross-border transfer charges (and if they are non-European then run a mile).0 -
Like Jeremy Clarkson?but there are certain risks, albeit small, in giving your details - for example a direct debit could be set-up).

Yeah, JC, who waived his rights under the DD guarantee
My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
To avoid this kind of problem, give the buyer the account number and sort code of some kind of savings account, on which DDs cannot be set up.0 -
I buy on Ebay, and prefer to pay by electronic transfer from my bank account because posting a cheque takes too long, and I don't like Paypal (I would rather my money went to the seller than stuck with them). I am amazed at how few sellers accept bank transfers.0

I've never really thought about bank transfers as a seller. Thinking about it it seems safer than a cheque, because cheques have more details on. I may think of offering bank transfers on my listing, so I don't have to pay Paypal extortionate fees!0

You are extraordinarily generous.Voyager2002 wrote: »I buy on Ebay, and prefer to pay by electronic transfer from my bank account because posting a cheque takes too long, and I don't like Paypal (I would rather my money went to the seller than stuck with them). You are sacrificing your Paypal protection in order to save the seller some money.
I hope every seller repays that generosity by not scamming you.
Sellers who don't accept bank transfers must be crazy.
