Can't run CD-roms.

I can't run the CD roms I got for xmas, I've had them from the same company before and they're fine. I've got several so I can't believe all of them are duff. I seem to be having trouble running discs lately, it doesn't recognise a disc being in them and when I search for it or files it says out a disc in, also on discs I have used before with no problems. I'm really miffed as I'm looking forward to using my new discs!
Can anyone help?

Insert a music CD that has been bought (Original) and see if that plays.

Also are you using XP or what.
  • Yes I'm on XP and no it isn't playing an original music disc either. thanks for replying!!

So you insert the disc and nothing happens? What about if you insert the
disk then open my computer can you see a CD in there i.e Audio CD for example
  • Have you looked in device manager is it showing an exclamation mark against the drive.
  • No it doesn't show a disc being there, will say insert disc, I know i've put one in and try searching for it and nothing, there are no exclamation marks against either the dvd/cd-rom drives.

Have you done anything different over the last few days before it stopped working or installed any software that may have caused this..

If not maybe just a duff drive..
  • I don't think so but its something I haven't used for a little while, so really not sure. They don't work in either of the drives so it must be a blip somewhere but i'm flummoxed! (doesn't take a lot I know!)
  • Just to recap then - no disks works and there is nothing in the device manager. You cannot think of anything that has changed within your set up.

Have you tried device manager select drive and check properties and device status.
  • Hi
Have you got 2 drives? and not one of them is working, is that right.
  • Yes, two drives, nothing happening, checked the properties of both and it says that they are fine and working properly. No disc works, the only thing I have done is to download real player but to be honest I don't think they were working before that but as wasn't needing them I put it to the back of my mind!
The only other thing is a while back I installed one of those little memory sticks? for my photos so i could keep the memory card in my camera and just take the memory stick to the shop, however apart from it being called a memory stick I constantly forget its in my bag to get the photos printed. that device is showing a little yellow exclamation mark next to it.
