Help Sony Cybershot S-80 macro mode focusing

Unfortunately my Sony FD90 gave up on me and i got a Sony Cybershot DSC-S80 camera for xmas. What i would like to know is how can i get a good focused close up with the new camera?
With my FD90 i was able to get a very good clear close up (lens within 1/2 inch of subject) but i do not seem to be able to with the new camera. I know the new one only has 3x optical zoom where as my FD90 had 8x and so im wondering maybe i will not be able to get such good close ups with this new camera.
Ive also not been able to find out if i can manually focus the camera as it seems each of the settings does it automatically.
I use my camera a great deal for taking pictures for my ebay auctions so it is very important to me to be able to get good clear shots, including descriptions and pictures on the packaging which is where the macro mode comes into use.
If i could have got my Fd90 fixed i would have done that rather than getting a new camera but it will be over £100 which doesnt make sense to spend that amount.
Any help greatly appreciated.

Sony Customer Information Centre is on 08705111999 not sure what the holiday opening times are but they should be able to advise. Sorry it's an 0870 number but I don't have a geogaphical number.0
