Name misspelled on cheque

I have recently received a compensation cheque from HMCS. However, despite the year of uncertainty, stress and nature of the issue, they have spelled my name wrong. It is states to pay Nicola X when my name is actually Nicole X.

Whats the likelihood of my bank (Abbey:S) accepting this cheque?

If I was working in a bank I'd accept it!

I would pay it in and see if they notice. If the cashier taking the payment doesn't notice, it's unlikely to get rejected later

If they query it, come back a bit later and try a different cashier and they may take it

I pay in cheques for the company I work for and my local HSBC accept all sorts of variants of the name on the bank account
Indecision is the key to flexibility :)

    Um I am not sure.

Olly -> Ollie -> Oliver I would accept. Not sure Nicole really could be that sorta name.

But then again people always spell my surname with a h in it when it doesn't, but to be fair I've never tried to bank a cheque with the wrong name - I have sent a cheque with wrong signature and bank phoned me to ask if it was actually my signature. I j ust hadn't updated it since I was 10 or whatever.

Funny you should use that name, as it is my BF's!

Apparently when he was younger he sent a cheque to an ebay seller before he was eligible for a paypal account without signing the cheque. The seller returned the cheque and he took it into the bank to see if he should officially stop the cheque. It was only for a small amount, less than £5 and the cashier he spoke to said that if it was for such a small amount they would have honoured the cheque.

    The mind boggles...

I did think that on my bank card it only states Miss N X, so maybe it won't be an issue but its taken nearly four months for this cheque to even reach my hands. I really don't want to have to wait for another one over a single letter_pale_
