How to get Polyfilla off bricks

I have a bare brick fireplace in my living room. There was coving attached at the ceiling, but I have now removed it. It looks like it was fixed on with polyfilla. There are large white patches bonded to the bricks
Anyone got any ideas for cleaning up the bricks. Failing that, has anyone succesfully painted over a mark on a brick without it showing too badly?

hot water will remove polyfilla. its a bit messy though.
    Get some gorm.
  • Try lightly tapping it with a hammer - it might crumble and fall off.

  • Chip it off then go over gently with a wire brush? depends on the type of brick?
  • Dear Ormus - how hot should the water be? is just off boiling OK?

    brick acid..
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.
