I had a lot of problems of that nature with a Skyworth from WHsmiths a while back, but none with the same discs on the Tevion. No more scientific test than that, but the Tevion seems to handle stuff a lot better.

I agree with Bigbak re DIVx picture quality. I'm sure that supermarket brands are OK and all the buttons work but unless youve seen a decent DVD player picture through a half decent TV you won't know what youre missing. If you re putting it through a small 12" portable then you probably wont tell the difference but anything larger will show up the faults of your Pacific/Cyberhome/Goodmans etc

I doubt whether the Aldi model is a rebadged Toshiba. It would be easy to tell as the Toshiba has "Component Output" sockets.

Dont take my word for it on the subject of picture quality - get hold of any home cinema mag that does comparison tests. A recent test by What Hi Fi of budget DVD players said - Pacific DVD1001 - "the Pacific may be cheap, but it left us far from cheerful" - Goodmans GDVD141 - "This Goodmans is disappointing".

Your money - your choice - but I know what I would be buying !!!
