To run GTA liberty city stories you only need v2.0, which can be downgraded to 1.5 (my son has a v1.5, which I upgrade to 2.0 for GTA, then downgrade for his 'homebrew' stuff) So far nothing above firmware 2.0 can be downgraded.

ok, but point is that the next wave of "big games" WILL require 2.5, which will shaft a lot of homebrew users if a working downgrader hasn't been released by then

I never saw the point in Homebrew. Ended up going back to 2.0 because half of my UMD movies refused to accept 1.5 (Even after setting a fake figure!).

In my opinion 1.5 is only useful for homebrew or running pirated games (Which is illegal). And to be honest, GTA is one of the best games I have played in the past few months! (Even though it is GTA 3 in disguise :D)

Homebrew is awesome. Thousands of old school games via emulators are available for free. You can play your legitimate games at greater speed off the memory stick (same with films) and I;ve tried a few pirate games I was interested in, and glad I did otherwise I'd have wasted about £150 buying games that are quite frankly rubbish.

FRIK.... I have enough trouble keeping up with films at normal speed!!!! :p

But seriously folks, laddo decided on Thursday it was about time he got a PSP, (thankfully he only plays footy games thus limiting game costs) and our friendly neighbourhood independent gamestore did the gigapack for £199 with a preowned (mint boxed) World Tour Soccer Challenge Edition for an extra £5 :)

As for getting films and TV progs ripped to the memory card, that has proved to be a walk in the park :) ..... Including creating unique .THM files. :)

yeah, the JAP models have a SHARP screen, we get a lesser quality SAMSUNG one...

and, remember that a firmware of 2.0 will become less and less useful as time goes on.. you have to upgrade to 2.5 to play gta already, and this is a trend that will continue.

i have yet to see real evidence of a working downgrader for 2.01-2.6... sobe warned!

Is that true about the screen being better on the japanese versions. Do you need to buy the Japanese games to see the difference or will it work fine with the UK games.

I am considering buying from yesasia but not sure where I would stand with the warranty if it fails or even arrives faulty (pixels etc)

I have had a Jap and a UK PSP and can say that you are not going to notice the difference between the two. Some videophile may put them side to side and spot some minute difference, but the screen quality issue has been blown out of all proportion. The UK screen is superb and no-one will realistically notice any difference and it is certainly not worth basing a decision on where to buy it due to the screen.

I personally could not see a difference.

    thanks for all replies.

I have decided. I am going for the white gigapack. A mate in work has it and when compared the the standard black it rocks.

Only thing now is to try and get some discounts for y asia.

I'm not too sure about the screen quality, I've read that there is no difference what-so-ever, think the hype started on Ebay to help sell imported models.

I have also read that some people have had problems connecting to UK models via wifi. There are also rumours of the Japan model having more powerful wifi (probably untrue). One thing you should remember is that if you have your games imported you can't play against UK games. i.e. you can't have a US game and play against someone with a UK game.

    Is Yes asia good ?

All items under games cannot be cancelled or returned after the order has been placed.

That concerns me a little... any thoughts ?
