Looks like the screen cable on my lappy is about to give up the ghost. Anyone know of a decent supplier at a "MSE" price?

there is no such thing as budget laptop parts, probably only available from hp if you mean the internal cable.
if an external one, any computer fair will have one cheap.

Have you tried ebay?
Often a dead laptop 'for spares' - or sometimes each part advertised on it's own.
Do a search on your model.
