    Oh my god.....i thought we were alone in this!!!

    We had a letter saying that EON were going to hike up our DD from 74 a month to 122 a month!

    I called them to say that it was a ridiculous amount to hike it up to.......we live in a three bed semi (modern ish) two adults and a four year old. We sleep for 9 hours a day, work/outta the house for 11 hours a day and actually in and physically using the house for 4 hours a day......AND we only have gas central heating......no gas cooker or anything else for that matter. They reduced it to 100 a month saying that because we are in debit we need to pay more!!! Why cant i pay what we are owing in debit to start over again??? I am so annoyed......they 'consumption advisor' told me that on average we are using 16903kwh annually....gas only....elec is 3559kwh.

    I am so confused on what we should do now......if we move, will the saving match what we gain in clubcard points (obviously paying 100 per month we will get quite a few clubcard points ha ha ha) or will we benefit more just paying on reciept of a bill?????

    Help us.....:confused:

    17000kwh gas at 4p kwh = £680
    3559kwh elec at 14p = £498
    Total = £1178

    £100 a month would just about cover your use at those prices (you need to adjust for your tariff) without adding VAT or subtracting discounts. You didn't say how much of a debit balance you have.

    We are in debit by £103.......i would have paid that off in full if our DD could stay lower but obviously if we are using 100 a month worth then we may as well stay as we are. I just dont 'get' how we use so much though.....am i being naive? I asked the gasfitter that came this morning and he said that we should keep our water on constant and turn the thermostat down cos it costs more to heat up the water......i currently have it on for 45 mins in the morning and 1hr in the evening!

    Read your meters - daily at first and then post - you need to know where the money's going.

    Will do -thanks. Fed up to the back teeth to be honest with G&E!! (But who isnt!). AM tempted to ask for a prepay meter but suspect when I lose the DD discount I'll be scuppered (plus they charge at a higher rate too I think). Oh well, hey-ho!
