Comparison sites - check your figures

I've switched supplier twice in the past and it was a thoroughly unpleasant experience - both times it went horribly wrong and I was left wishing I hadn't bothered.

However, in the current market I want to pay as little as possible to the oligopoly that is our energy industry in the UK. Unfortunately all these switching sites are slightly on the unreliable side by the looks of things. I used energyhelp line (Martin's top recommended switching site) and it unfortunately neglected to add in the annual discount that I receive from Atlantic Power and Gas - therefore showing a discount even for switching to a capped tariff!

So my advice is: use several sites to pick out who sees to be the cheapest supplier for you; then go to their website, see if you can find their tariff listed, then confirm the saving (or not) yourself.

How the government can believe they've created an open and competitive market is utterly beyond me. If you switch then good luck: here's where to go when the wheels come off: http://www.ofgem.gov.uk/CONSUMERS/COMPLAIN/Pages/Complain.aspx

  • So far on various comparison sites I have INDICATED savings for switching from my current supplier to the SAME new supplier of:
    £113, £151 (NEW supplier quote), £70, £57, £106
See what I mean? CHECK your figures yourself!

Too true Thulbourn.....a potential saving for me of £72, about a year ago, magically disappeared once I did the figures.
