larmy16 wrote:I enjoy ironing for other people for money!!
LOL, Hope i will be able to say that!!larmy16 wrote:I picked up a flyer in our local shop a few weeks ago, items were individually priced...
Great stuff, I can definitely use that as a guide, thanks for all the tips...
anymore also appreciated :santa2:** i didn't lose my mind, i sold it on ebay **0 -
I have used a local ironing service, she charged £2 for 5 items plus £2 pick up/delivery charge. I found it awkward to arrange times for pick up etc, she wouldn't do it on a weekend, which is when I do most of my washing.
I would prefer someone to come round & do it here, with a bit of hoovering & bathroom cleaning thrown in for good measure.
Minky2Slice - where in the country are you? prices will definately vary by region.0 -
Thanks for that Lucie, I thought i would be doing ironing for people in my neighborhood, so that I can easily (and for free) pick up and deliver...
thought it wouldnt be so much of a hassle for them (and me) as i'd be picking up and delivering in the evenings when i get home from work, and when most people are at home. Also i could have it back to them in shorter time
As for doing it at someone's home...well, i'd have to think about making house-calls!
Wouldnt mind doing that, but i'd only be able to do that on weekends unfortunately as i work and get home too late during the week...
Made some flyers already (of which i am very proud of  , plus they look professional printed in colour) LOL, just still confused about the pricing...suppose i will have to do some more research, ring up some ironing service people and enquire...** i didn't lose my mind, i sold it on ebay **0 -
prices really do depend on where you live. recently attended a college course and the women i got friendly with there told me the woman who did her ironng charged £10 per black bag. alot of people who do ironing in our area put postcards in post office/newsagents windows for which there is usually a small charge- 20p per week.0

Don't know where you are, Minky2Slice, but there is an ironing shop round the corner from me in South London. I went by it this morning and noted that they charge £9 for 12 items, and £18 for 25. That seemed to include free delivery.0

Minky2Slice...
All I can say is GOOD LUCK!! You sound like you have determination to do something good so whatever you decide to charge you will do well!! Don't be ashamed to ring around local companies and find out what they charge, as someone said its market research and the biggest companies on earth certainly wouldn't be where they are now if they didnt do that!!
Undercut them, offer a promtional discount, give them a special offer token... do whatever you have to do to get the business!! I have a background in marketing and what I would say you should do is to find out more about the type of people who use home ironing services... elderly people and working families is something that I have found from the quick 2 mins search that I have done but don't waste your leaflets on people that won't use your service and target your areas through research....
There are lots of free ways of advertising, the internet is one of them and word of mouth is another, look into local sites and promote your service there... take a trip to local community centres and post up flyers there, it is usually free and if one person is interested then you have made a goo profit already!
I have no personal experience of ironing services but as a working mum would like to see something that tempted me into paying someone to do my ironing....I HATE ironing so if I saw an easy to nderstand leaflet that said someone would pick up my ironing and return it for a reasonable cost I must admit I'd be tempted!
If you get stuck and want a hand marketing this then please feel free to PM me and I will happily give you a hand! You are on the right track and I'm sure you will do just fine, just think about where you send those flyers cos you need to put them in the best possible places and price better than the competition does!!
GOOD LUCK (again!)

I hope the cleaning service offered by 'All The Best Cleaning' is better than their spelling and grammar! What an awful website! I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole!
Minky2Slice, make sure all your advertising looks professional.
Good luck

There are no end of ironing services in Reading, so have a good route through to get your pricing right.
There is a shop on the road by the TGIFridays roundabout (heading on the road towards Thames Water, I think it is called Vastern Road) pop in there and pick up a leaflet. If you live near Earley there is one on the main Wokingham Road that you could pop in and do the same for. Reading is a huge area so you should be fine for customers.
There are also stacks of people advertising in Reading in newsagents so take their numbers down and call them and ask them their prices.
Remember the companies with shops big equipment and free pick up and delivery will generally charge more money, so if you think your quality of pressing might be questionable charge a little less and mention you do it as a side line when they call you to organise it.
Also in this day and age, you might want to put an email address into your flyer (set up a hotmail account specifically so they don't have your personal account) as many people prefer to communicate via those means, and you might be able to sneak in the admin while in the office at lunchtime at work!!

Hey minky-
How's the ironing service coming along? I've just read the thread and lots of other MSE'rs have given some great advice.
If you're looking for customers then I would love some help. I've just moved to Reading about two months ago and can barely keep up with washing the dishes let alone ironing clothes!0
