OP, where abouts in the UK are you? if you are anywhere near London or fancy a trip into London, there are several Benefit stores here. I can vouch for the store in Spitalfields, (Liverpool Street is nearest station, its not in the station, its in the Spitalfields market area) the staff are great there and it has the bonus of being a stand alone store- more space, better staffing.

I have also been several times to the benefit stand in House of Fraiser and in Debernams, the staff in each are great. I prefer the one in HOF, the girl there really helped me out -and I didn't have to buy anything either!

Agreed there is little saving on the net, and its also hard to find quality stuff- like most makeuo items, it does have a shelf life. I made the mistake of buying an ex-display that apparently had not been ever on display (it was never used) on ebay of Dr feelgood which I love. Only to find the texture was so dry- it was obviously way out of date. I could only just use it but gave up in the end. Ebay is not always the best place for cheaper stuff as I have found!

My best advice is to visit a bigger benefit store or stand, where they are based in a city, they will have to fight harder to get customers so are all the more likely to help you out.

Can I also recommend Dior if you can't find any benefit stuff to suit. (and no I have no attachments to Dior- aside from their selling me the perfect mascara!) its got some unique things in that are worth investing in and could be worth a look?

I order direct from the Benefit website in America, the shopping cost to England is only a couple of dollars and you get 2 free samples with each order.

Wee warning on this - you may get charged customs on this as I have been in the past, which makes it harder to tell how much of a bargain it is.
  • Thanks both, really helpful.

I did pop into London every few months and we actually have a stand alone Benefit store recently opened in a town near me. I must try it ... you are right re the fighting harder to get customers!

I find the ladies/girls in HOF are usually pretty helpful. In particular the lady at the YSL stand, High Wycombe is excellent (apologies drifting off subject a bit!)

I just refuse to buy make up from someone who can't be bothered!

So suprized about your Benefit experience- whenever I visit a counter, I am always offered a free make over- could be the time I shop is when they are free/want something to do! (I used to work as a sales assistant for various fashion chains- the boredom is scary and getting something to do- ie help out customers is the only way out in my experience.)

Maybe try visiting in the week- in the day time, when staff are free, customers are thin on the ground and they have their quota to meet in terms of sales (they all- whatever store you go to, will have been given targets to meet in terms of sales for the day/week). Monday through to wednesday all day are good times to visit, whilst also thursday until about 4pm is also a good time, friday and weekend days are when everyone else shops and stores do get busy so staff are probably a bit less willing to spend as much time giving make-overs incase they miss a sale.

Thats not to say they wont.

Also, Bodyshop are helpful. And if you can get to it, the Boots in Liverpool Street AND High Street Kensington both have a maxfactor counter (and Benefit counters) among many others- full to the brim with makeup and have staff on hand when I visit who look more then willing to chat to you about the stock!
