This not so "stupid question" got me thinking...I have NTL, BUT have an old Sky dish.

My stupid question, is can I use this to get "freeview" or what do I need to make it active? We live in GU46 postcode an free-to-air is hopeless as we are in a black-stop for reception.

    Any ideas would be helpful.

If you want your dish to "look" at astra 19 degrees east and hotbird 13 degrees east at the same time, you can buy a **click here** monoblock lnb like this from ebay. They are fairly easy to set up. I bought an Inverto recently for around £20 and it works great with my Technomate 1500 and £9.99 Lidl 80cm dish. :j

If you want a terrific free program for aligning dishes to satellites click here for SAA

Finally for a list of free Russian TV and the relevant satellite click here for the Lyngsat list. although the only sats you can "get" in the UK fairly easily are Hotbird and Sirius.

The problem is that he may want to "look" at astra 13 degrees and Astra 28 - as that's the one with the English channels - I havent found a 15 degree monoblock, so have had to mount 2 lnbs on my own bracket - took me about 2 minutes to make!

My advice is just try turning the dish with 1 lnb to see what you can get - once you've done that you can make up you mind as to what you want to watch and how much you want to spend - you can then decide on multi LNB's or motorised. The only helpful satellite supplier I found was Myers in Wathamstow - the rest were not much help - only wanting to supply overpriced kit to fit themselves. If you have some technical knowledge and DIY skills it is very easy to install a dish - look at any traveller's site and see how many they have poking out of the ground I bet they don't get them professionally installed.
