tiling a small bathroom

can anyone help me find out, where to start and how to tile my bathroom? i've only got 3 sq mtrs to tile, and cant get a tiler out for such a small job.

the job includes tiling the bath panel and around the walls, but i dont know where to start.

done plenty of floor tiling before but never actually wall, and i must admit did a pretty good job at it.

    It's pretty simple.
There's tile cement for the job and plastic spacers to make sure the tile gaps are even. You can hire tile cutters.

Work out the position of the tiles so you dont get a small strip left at one end - very difficult to cut even with an electric cutter. Have a look in Wicks for a tileing leaflet of the library for the Collins DIY manual - it has taught me a lot over the years. use a straight level edge to lay the tiles on and invest in spacers - they're fantastic

Yes, I think I remember reading in a DIY book that you should start in the middle :rudolf: You may get a strip left either end, but that looks much better than an asymmetric wall :j

Have you tried asking Jeeves how to do it? I came up with this site which will send you a free DIY guide..... http://uk.ask.com/fr?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.dtw-tiles.co.uk%2Ffaq-dtw-ceramic-tiles.htm&s=au&bu=http%3A%2F%2Fuk.ask.com%2Fweb%3Fq%3Dhow%2Bto%2Btile%2Ba%2Bbathroom%26o%3D0%26page%3D1%26dm%3Dctry&q=how+to+tile+a+bathroom&o=0&qt=0&ac=25&dm=ctry&ma=How%20To%20Tile%20-%20Frequently%20Asked%20Questions.%20%20Part%201%3A%20Where%20can%20I%20use%20tiles%3F%20...%20See%20our%20advice%20sections%20on%20floor%20%2C%20kitchen%20and%20bathroom%20tiles%20for&mt=How%20To%20Tile%20-%20Frequently%20Asked%20Questions&mb=

If you are totally new to tiling, I can give you a piece of advice (as a non-DIY girlie!) :rudolf:

Most ceramic tiles have raw edges (not glazed, I mean). If you are going to tile round a(n outside) corner, you may therefore have a raw edge showing. You can buy plastic strip which gives this corner a nice curvy finished edge, which IMHO is well worth the money spent as it gives a nice looking finish. HTH! :xmassmile

  • If you're going to tile the bath panel don't forget it may give a little depending on whether the bath is full or empty - and the tiles won't flex.

From a plumbers point of view dont tile the bath panel. When the pipes leak or the waste blocks youll be sorry , but at least you`ll be good at tiling to do it again when the plumbers gone. ;o)
On the internet you can be anything you want. It`s strange so many people choose to be rude and stupid.

I read somewhere recently that when you mastic the bath you should get the HEAVIEST member of the family to sit in it (presumably full of water!) so that it's bearing the max load it will be required to!

PResumably if you've got any specially heavy friends, you borrow one for the day for this task... :p

i have had the bath panel made with wood / screws so that they can be easily removed if access to the plumbing is required and the screws are perfectly placed in the corners

And you wont be tiling over the screw holes, will you???

If you are tiling the bath panel, make sure you prime the timber, and for best results use flexable adeshive.
A thankyou is payment enough .
